Rayo Vallecano are today celebrating after manager Íñigo Pérez rejected an approach from Nottingham Forest.
[Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/rayo-vallecano/fichaje-inigo-perez-sobre-mesa-20250909-511260.html) cover the situation today after a report yesterday explained that Pérez had been high on Nottingham Forest’s list of replacements for Nuno Espirito Santo.
They, though, ended up being rejected by the Spanish boss, who preferred to stick with Rayo Vallecano and continue the work he’s been doing there. He led them to European football last season.
Estadio back this up, explaining that Nottingham Forest approached the Rayo Vallecano manager, but he wanted to ‘remain loyal to his project in Vallecas’.
They say Pérez was a ‘prominent name’ in Forest’s negotiations and one of the preferred candidates but his commitment to Rayo and his players outweighed the temptation of a move to the Premier League.
He made it clear that he would not abandon his squad at a crucial moment, especially after recent tension between fans and the management in Vallecas.
“The most important thing is my players, and I’m not going to let them down,” he is quoted as having ‘declared’. The refusal led Nottingham Forest to accelerate contact with Ange Postecoglou, who was confirmed as their new manager yesterday.
Estadio believe that this won’t be the last time Pérez is linked with a move to England. In fact, they believe that ‘everything points’ to him remaining on the radar of several elite clubs in future.
They say his ‘playing style, leadership skills, and recent success’ with Rayo Vallecano establish him as a coach with international potential. Nottingham Forest, though, were unable to convince him this time around.
