Graham Potter’s West Ham United are in talks to re-sign free agent Lukasz Fabianski, just three months after letting him leave.
According to a report from The Sun, Lukasz Fabianski could secure a shocking return to West Ham United. The Polish international left the club at the start of the summer but has failed to find a new team and is now keen on returning following an approach from Graham Potter’s side.
Fabianski was a part of the West Ham setup for seven seasons. He joined them from Swansea back in 2018 in a deal worth £7 million. The 40-year-old went on to make a total of 216 appearances for the London club.
Over the last few seasons, the Polish shot-stopper has been more of a backup option for the Hammers. Last season, Fabianski was involved in a total of 17 matches across competitions, and he even kept four clean sheets.
With his contract running out, the London club decided against handing him a new deal. They made an official announcement that he would be leaving once his contract ran out. The 40-year-old was even-handed in a farewell game at Ipswich in the final league game of the season.
West Ham are ready to bring Fabianski back
While he became a free agent and was searching for a new club throughout the summer, he hasn’t been able to secure a deal. Meanwhile, West Ham went in and signed Mads Hermansen from relegated Leicester City before the start of the new season in a deal worth £16.5 million.
The former Leicester City star is expected to be their undisputed number one for the time being. While he hasn’t had the best of starts, the Hammers will certainly back him going forward. The London club also have Alphonse Areola in their ranks, but they have contacted Fabianski over a potential return.
They want him to be their third choice behind Hermansen and Areola. The 40-year-old is reportedly keen on securing a return, and it is believed a deal could be struck before the weekend. Following the departure of Wes Foderingham, signing Fabianski seems to have become a priority for Potter’s team.
