Ally McCoist issues 'brutally honest' verdict on Jack Grealish's start to life at Everton

Ally McCoist has given his opinion on Jack Grealish’s start to his time at Everton after the opening three Premier League fixtures.

Grealish left Manchester City on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window to get more game time and rediscover the form that made Pep Guardiola buy him for £100million in the first place.

The 30-year-old had fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and opted to join Everton’s new project, which aims to move forward under David Moyes’ leadership.

Grealish has quickly won over the Everton faithful after his first few performances, but how has McCoist found him?

Ally McCoist believes Jack Grealish has ‘hit the ground running’ at Everton

Grealish has immediately reminded fans of his quality on the ball, driving at defences and causing problems with his dribbling ability, which saw him nominated for September’s Player of the Month award in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, nobody in the Premier League has more assists than him so far (four), and McCoist revealed to talkSPORT that he’s been impressed with what he’s seen, even if he was surprised Moyes signed him.

‘It’s a funny one, it’s amazing. I have to be brutally honest, I wasn’t sure he was big Moysey’s type of player.

“But fair play to big Moysey, as he’s got some talent in that team when you think about it, with Ndiaye and boys like that who are playing really, really well.

“When you go to a new club, the one thing you want to do is hit the ground running, and boy, has he [Grealish] hit the ground running at that new stadium.

“I think it’s great to see, he’s back playing football the way we know he can. That’s what he does. A few great assists since he’s gone there, good to see. Delighted.”

Jack Grealish still hasn’t got back into the England squad

Despite Grealish’s strong start to the Premier League campaign, his three performances for Everton weren’t enough to get him back into the England setup.

Playing for the Three Lions was one of the reasons behind Grealish’s loan move, with the idea that he’d get more guaranteed game time in a World Cup year.

However, he faces competition for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

Maintaining his strong start to the season will give the England manager something to think about, though, and Wayne Rooney has urged Tuchel to pick Grealish.
