While the Dallas Cowboys haven't been the best drafting team in the world over the last few years, there have been multiple instances of this franchise letting go of players right before they are supposed to hit their full potential. The Cowboys may have another one of those players on their hands in cornerback Nahshon Wright.
After being traded to the Minnesota Vikings for Andrew Booth (which hasn't exactly worked out for Dallas), Wright's career appeared to be over after appearing in just one game with his new team. The Chicago Bears took a chance on him in the preseason, and he has rewarded their belief in him.
Though the Bears fell to Wright's old team in Week 1, the former Oregon State star wasted no time making his mark on proceedings with a 74-yard pick-six that put Chicago up 17-6. It's not Wright's fault that this team relinquished such a huge advantage.
Cowboys fans will cringe as Nahshon Wright stars for Bears
Wright may only need one or two more big games, perhaps in Dallas' Week 3 matchup against the Bears, for fans to start wondering just why someone with the level of physical talent Wright has was tossed away so quickly. A pick-six in that game could make this move an even worse mark against Jerry Jones and Will McClay.
Wright's landing with the Bears was fairly fortuitous, as he linked back up with former Cowboys assistant and current Chicago defensive backs coach Al Harris. After years of struggling, the Bears might provide Wright with the stability he needs to get the most out of his physical tools.
Wright may have only been given an opportunity to show off his stuff for the Bears due to injuries impacting the availability of Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, but plays like that show Wright has made ebough improvements to warrant a bigger defensive role in the Chicago defense.
While Dallas' secondary performed much better than expected in their Week 1 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles after shutting down Devonta Smith and AJ Brown, some fans will be rightfully peeved if they had a player like Wright in their grasp and they managed to let him get away.
