Details of Arsenal transfer laid out–Gunners can benefit in future if season goes well

Arsenal’s agreement with HSV Hamburg for Fabio Vieira includes an option for it to be made permanent next year for €20m.

That’s [according to BILD](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/fabio-vieira-wechselt-zum-hsv-neue-vertrags-details-enthuellt-68bfe70d784ebe32609e0e04), who cover the details of the Arsenal man’s loan deal at the German club after he arrived on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

They explain that the signing of Vieira ‘resembled a transfer thriller’ as HSV board member Stefan Kuntz knew him from his time as the U21 national team coach. He met him four years ago when Germany played Portugal in the U21 European Championship final and has held him in high esteem ever since.

Sporting director Claus Costa was also a fan, but a deal was unrealistic as Arsenal wanted to sell. A loan deal was not on the table.

Vieira couldn’t find a club at the end of the window, though, so Arsenal opened up to a loan deal for him. Talks with the midfielder took place and a deal was quickly wrapped up with the Gunners.

That deal is an initial loan, with a €400,000 loan feel initially paid by HSV. That can be reduced to zero if Vieira becomes a regular starter. If HSV wish to keep him long term, he would become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The purchase options is set at around €20m. But there is no pressure to activate that as the deadline expires after the season, which ends in the middle of May.

If that were to happen, he’d sign a four-year deal with the German club and Arsenal will retain a sell-on clause between 10% and 20%. That’s for the future, and depends how his loan, which was agreed at the last minute, works out this season.
