A New Jersey man charged with killing the sister of an NBA player in Jackson on Saturday told investigators he shot her after seeing another man leave her apartment.

Shaqullie Green, 29, told police he believed Toraya Reid was cheating on him. Green and Reid were in a “dating relationship,” the court document said, but it’s unclear for how long.

He told police he saw another man leaving her apartment before he allegedly shot her four times on a road near the exit to the complex, according to an affidavit of probable cause outlining murder and weapons charges.

Reid’s brother is Naz Reid, an Asbury Park native who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Green, who is being held at the Ocean County jail in Toms River, is scheduled for a detention hearing Thursday morning. Attorney information wasn’t listed for the Jackson man.

Investigators found four spent 10 mm shell casings near Reid, 28, when she was found at the Paragon Apartment Complex at 11 a.m, the complaint said. She was pronounced dead at the scene 50 minutes later.

Greeen was arrested as he ran along New Prospect Road near Aumach Road toward Interstate 195, according to court papers.

Witnesses and a 911 caller had described his clothing to police and noted he was carrying a backpack. One man said he witnessed the shooting while another was in his apartment when he heard screaming and gushots.

Officials later obtained a search warrant for the backpack and found a Glock 20, 10 mm caliber inside. A wallet containing Green’s identification was also with the backpack.

Naz Reid starred at Roselle Catholic High School, and then played one year of college basketball at Louisiana State. He has been a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves since 2019.
