The Dallas Cowboys made several roster moves ahead of the team's Week 2 game versus New York Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys continue to make roster moves as the team attempts to get in the win column against the New York Giants in Week 2. The Cowboys placed defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey on injured reserve as the defender is dealing with a back injury.

Dallas also waived cornerback Christian Matthew on September 9, 2025, as the veteran was on injured reserve, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. Dallas has yet to announce what the team will do with the additional roster spot created by Winfrey’s move to IR.

Matthew has had a complicated tenure with the Cowboys as the defender was previously released on August 25, with an injury designation. Dallas re-signed Matthew, but the franchise once again released the corner weeks later.

The 6-foot-2, 195 pound cornerback last played an NFL defensive snap in 2023, notching two appearances for the Chicago Bears.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Cowboys news and rumors ahead of the team’s clash against the Giants in Week 2.

Ex-Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn Finds a New Home With the Broncos

Former Cowboys fan favorite Deuce Vaughn was one of the team’s playmakers unable to make the final 53-man roster. The good news for Vaughn is it did not take long for the running back to find a new home.

Heading into Week 2, the Denver Broncos signed Vaughn to the team’s practice squad. Broncos head coach Sean Payton has experience working with undersized running backs headlined by the success of Darren Sproles during his tenure with the New Orleans Saints.

The news comes a little more than one week after Vaughn had a tryout in Denver.

“Deuce Vaughn had a tryout with the Broncos,” DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker detailed on September 2. “Sean Payton spent time coaching someone Vaughn grew up modeling his game after: Darren Sproles, and Payton also brought on Sproles as a coaching intern this offseason.

“Not difficult to deDEUCE why they’d take a look at Vaughn.”

The Giants Will Start QB Russell Wilson vs. Cowboys in Week 2

After a disappointing end in the team’s 24-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, the Cowboys are turning their attention to the Giants. Dallas will face quarterback Russell Wilson as New York announced the team will not make a change at the position for Week 2.

“After a game — it’s an emotional game, tough game,” Giants head caoch Brian Daboll said on September 8, per NFL.com’s Kevin Patra. “Didn’t play particularly well, I would say collectively, but in terms of making any of those decisions — really at any position or schematic changes — I’d like to do it with a clear head and watch the tape.

“Again, like I said yesterday, that game doesn’t fall on Russell Wilson. We got to do a better job collectively; coaching, playing. But Russ will be the starter.”

The Cowboys Are a 5.5-Point Favorite vs. Giants in NFL Odds for Week 2

Both the Cowboys and Giants are looking for their first win of the season. New York is coming off an underwhelming performance in the team’s 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders.

The Giants failed to score a touchdown with Wilson struggling to lead the team’s offense on scoring drives. Dallas is a 5.5-point favorite versus New York in Week 2, per FanDuel.
