Actor James Nelson-Joyce has been on a tour of the city but still managed to stop and take photos with fans. The 36-year-old This City Is Ours star fronts a new Adidas campaign celebrating the release of the new Liverpool FC third kit.

The shirt features the iconic Trefoil label and is the final to be released for the 25/26 season, which saw the Reds return to its partnership with Adidas. The club has signed a 10 year partnership with the brand after five years with Nike.

A new advert was released yesterday as the new shirt was unveiled. James stars front and centre in various locations across Liverpool including cultural cornerstones, popular back street bars and longstanding family-run institutions.

James popped his head through the window of The Grapes on Roscoe Street to watch DJ Lauren Lo Sung behind the decks. The Grapes has long been a favourite haunt for pub lovers in Liverpool and consistently earns national acclaim as one of the top pubs in the UK.

The actor then moved to the other side of the city for a sit down meal at Sans Café on Lightbody Street. In a recent post shared by the venue on Instagram, James can be seen stopping for photos with the team while filming was paused. The venue captioned the post: "We're so grateful to have an opportunity like this."

The business was founded by Tseng Chikha, from Sichuan, who served in the Chinese armed forces during WWII on the front line in Burma. Tseng had to leave the army after being wounded, but later joined the British Merchant Navy, which brought him to Liverpool.

Going on to serve hundreds of workers based on and around the city's Northern Docks, the name Sans stuck after failed attempts to pronounce Tseng's name.

The café's red and yellow exterior continues to stand out among the surrounding industrial landscape decades later. Offering English and Irish breakfasts as well as Sichuan dishes, the café has remained there since.

During the campaign, James is advocating why the city is so special in his chat with the mystery caller. The Walton native said: "When did you land? I'd heard you might want showing around. I'll come and get you now. What's it like in Liverpool? It's a good time to come here."

In April, James swung into The Vale bar in Walton to chat with fans. Owner Ed Kelly previously told the ECHO: "James was lovely. He was out having a meal in a restaurant further down the street before he came into the bar.

"He wasn't here for long but he spent time talking to everyone at the bar. I didn't even know he was here until someone told me. I went down to see him and he was really nice and chatty."

James' chance visit came at the hands of staff member Michelle who spotted him walking outside the window. Ed added: "The lady behind the bar basically accosted him on the street.

"Although he was basically pulled in, he was so nice to everyone and happy to chat with fans. He wasn't in for long but he was very down to earth, pleasant and friendly."
