Opta supercomputer predicts Liverpool and Arsenal's chances of winning the Champions League

Liverpool and Arsenal were Premier League title rivals last season.

Although the former of the two came out on top in the end, Mikel Arteta’s men made a good name for themselves, even if they have finished second for the last three years.

However, due to Liverpool’s dominance at the start of the season, they created enough of a gap between the two teams to end up winning the title by 10 points.

And, now that both clubs have spent a hefty chunk of change on improving their ranks, questions are arising about what the future holds for both teams.

That is, especially after Liverpool ended up beating the Gunners 1-0 just before the international break.

Opta supercomputer believes Liverpool will win the Champions League this season

Seeing as though Arne Slot has added the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak to his ranks this summer, it’s not a surprise to see the Anfield outfit being touted to win everything.

At the moment, things seem to be going swimmingly in the Premier League for Liverpool, but as was shown in their Community Shield clash, they can be beaten.

Indeed, the Community Shield is seen as a glorified friendly by most, but the fact that the Reds could have already added a piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet is hard to forget about.

However, Slot and co likely have bigger things on their mind, such as the Champions League, with the Opta supercomputer now predicting who it thinks will win the trophy this season.

“Liverpool (20.4%) are favourites to win this season’s Champions League, according to the Opta supercomputer,” they wrote.

“The likeliest threat to Arne Slot’s side are Premier League rivals Arsenal (16.0%), while reigning champions PSG are third favourites to retain their title (12.1%).

“Man City, who won the competition in 2022-23, are given an 8.4% chance, as are Barcelona, while Club World Cup champions Chelsea (7.0%), Real Madrid (5.8%) and Bayern Munich (4.3%) form the chasing pack.”

Liverpool will have to try their best to win the Champions League

At the moment, the Premier League is seen as the most competitive league in Europe.

Indeed, others, such as the Serie A and the Bundesliga, have had different winners over the last few years, but with the amount of money spent by English clubs this summer, it’s clear that the Premier League is on top.

Usually, this would translate to that team winning the Champions League, but last term, that wasn’t the case.

Paris Saint-Germain were the eventual winners, with Luis Enrique’s men even knocking Liverpool out of the competition.

Of course, the Reds will be out for vengeance this term, but, with how packed their fixture list is set to be, each player among Slot’s first-team squad will need to be on top of their game.

Otherwise, things could go south rather quickly, which would leave Liverpool rather red-faced, especially after all the money they’ve spent this season.
