Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens did everything required to win on Sunday night, but they didn’t. Wave’s Bomani Jones believes that John Harbaugh, the team’s longtime coach, could be running out of time at its helm.
“You put 40 points on the road, and you’re up–and you lose–this goes back to the coach,” Jones said Monday on his podcast, “The Right Time with Bomani Jones.”
“To me, if I’m running that franchise, this is the make-or-break year for Harbaugh. And look, he’s been there forever, man. Sometimes, it’s just time for you to go. It happens.”
Harbaugh is in his 18th season overseeing the Ravens, who entered this season having gone 25-9 over the previous two. Baltimore has only had two losing campaigns during his tenure, but it hasn’t yet reached the Super Bowl with Jackson operating the offense.

According to ESPN Research, NFL teams had gone 2,312-3 when holding a lead of 15 or more points in the final four minutes of a game since 2000. The Ravens had a 99.1% chance to win against the Buffalo Bills with 4:48 to go. Up by two with 1:33 left, Baltimore faced a fourth-and-3 at its 38-yard line. Harbaugh chose to punt the ball rather than go for it when he saw Jackson cramping.
“You got to make the decision very quickly and you got to say, ‘Hey, do we have a call that we really like?'” Harbaugh said. “And Lamar was coming off the field at that point. I could see something wasn’t quite right, and you say you got to get your punt team out there.”
