Micah Richards rips into Alan Shearer after his Nick Woltemade prediction for Newcastle United

Alan Shearer has very high hopes for Nick Woltemade at Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old is hoping to make his Newcastle United debut this weekend, as the Magpies get set to face Wolves in Premier League action.

Woltemade is in training with Newcastle after the international break, with Eddie Howe finally getting a closer look at his new signing.

There is a lot of pressure on the Germany international’s shoulders, as he replaces Alexander Isak at St James’ Park. That is a lot of goals to replace, with Isak finding the net 62 times during his Toon career.

However, Magpies legend Alan Shearer has no concerns about Woltemade finding the back of the net in black and white.

Alan Shearer predicts how many goals Nick Woltemade will score for Newcastle United

Speaking on the latest episode of the Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer has discussed Germany’s recent struggles alongside Micah Richards and Gary Lineker.

The Newcastle United legend took the opportunity to turn his attention towards Woltemade, making a prediction on how many Premier League goals he is going to score.

However, Richards was quick to poke fun at his fellow podcaster.

“They’ve [Germany] got a great centre-forward who is about to score 25 goals in the Premier League for Newcastle,” Shearer said.

Richards replied: “Well you didn’t say that in the group. I had to tell you who he was!”

Lineker added: “Al’s finally perked up after his two weeks of depression following Isak’s departure.”

How many goals has Nick Woltemade scored in his career?

The dream is for Woltemade to become a superstar at St James’ Park. He has a lot of potential, which is why he is now Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever.

The striker is an investment in potential, as his goal record so far in his career is nothing special.

Woltemade found the net 17 times for Stuttgart in all competitions last season, with 12 of those goals coming in the Bundesliga.

In his entire career, Woltemade has scored 37 goals in 125 appearances. 17 of those goals came during a loan spell at SV Elversberg when they were in the third tier of German football.

The giant forward has proven to be a late bloomer, as he makes the mammoth step up to leading the line for Newcastle United.

Shearer’s tongue-in-cheek prediction of 25 goals feels ambitious, especially as he will be sharing striker responsibilities with fellow new recruit Yoane Wissa.

Wissa is expected to start against Wolves on Saturday, which will likely mean that Woltemade is on the bench.
