In the final days of the window, Wolves failed to add desired depth to their midfield, calling the decision to loan out Boubacar Traore and Tommy Doyle into question.
Wolves wanted another midfielder to join this summer, with Vitor Pereira promised more depth.
Hayden Hackney was a priority target, but Middlesbrough’s stance was clear. Free agent Josh Brownhill elected to move to Saudi, so Wolves ended the window without a midfield addition.

Boubacar Traore and Tommy Doyle were sent out on loan earlier in the summer, and sources close to Molineux News have disclosed the club’s stance on the decision.
Wolves have no regrets regarding loans of Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore
The club probably didn’t anticipate such a struggle in signing a midfielder, and some fans were unsure as to why two relatively solid options weren’t considered to stay.
But our sources have revealed that they are happy with the deals to send Doyle to Birmingham, and Traore to Ligue 1 side Metz.

“I don’t think it’s a massive regret from the club. They’re still insistent that they’re happy with what they did, really,” says one Wolves source.
While the club may not regret their decision, it has left Vitor Pereira quite light in the midfield department, and if either Joao Gomes or Andre misses time, it could spell trouble for Wolves.
Vitor Pereira needs to give Ladislav Krejci a run in midfield to assess his ability
Ladislav Krejci was signed from Girona as another centre-back to reinforce the struggling defensive line.
The Czech defender should be competing to start in the back three, but the sooner Pereira can give him some minutes in midfield, the better.

Krejci was named Player of the Season for Sparta Praha as a midfielder, so there’s some evidence to suggest he can do a job there.
But the Premier League is a different beast. There are still question marks over the feasibility of playing him in midfield, so a cup game could provide the perfect opportunity to find out once and for all.
