The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied Jordon Hudson and Bill Belichick's altered trademark applications over catchphrases owned by his former New England Patriots team
Hudson and Belichick attempted to add "(Bill's Version)" to the catchphrases in an effort to make the trademarks different
However, the patent office said the trademarks were too "similar" and would create "confusion," according to documents obtained by PEOPLE
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied Jordon Hudson’s applications to trademark four of boyfriend Bill Belichick’s catchphrases amid an ongoing dispute with his former New England Patriots team.
Hudson, 24, and Belichick, her 73-year-old boyfriend, had filed several trademark applications back in April for a handful of the football coach’s catchphrases, which are technically trademarked by his former NFL team and its owner Robert Kraft. Belichick has had an ongoing feud with Kraft since leaving the team in 2024.
However, the couple added “(Bill’s Version)” to each of the trademark applications, hoping to take a page out of Taylor Swift’s playbook when she released re-recorded versions of her discography after it was purchased by Scooter Braun.
However, as ESPN first reported, that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied Hudson and Belichick’s requests for the catchphrases, "Do Your Job (Bill's Version)," "Ignore the Noise (Bill's Version)," "The Belestrator (Bill's Version)" and "No Days Off (Bill's Version)." The office said granting the trademarks would create “confusion” with the original trademarks already filed by Kraft and the Patriots, according to an official denial notice filed earlier this month and later obtained by PEOPLE.

The patent office said the trademarks Hudson filed on behalf of her and Belichick’s TCE Rights Management company were “so similar to a registered mark that it is likely consumers would be confused, mistaken, or deceived as to the commercial source of the goods and/or services of the parties.”
The patent office added that the “(Bill’s Version)” trademarks Hudson sought approval for were “highly similar in sound, appearance, meaning and overall commercial impression to [the Patriots’ original trademark],” the documents obtained by PEOPLE read.
PEOPLE has reached out to Hudson for comment, as well as spokespersons for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Belichick and the Patriots parted ways in January 2024 after 24 seasons as head coach, during which he won six Super Bowls alongside Tom Brady. Since leaving the team, however, Belichick and Kraft’s relationship has soured publicly as the two have taken jabs over credit for the Patriots’ past success with Brady, who later went on to win another Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his 2023 retirement.

Meanwhile, Belichick’s relationship with Hudson, a 24-year-old former cheerleader, has made even more headlines over the past year as she’s spearheaded his image as his publicity agent, drawing backlash in April after inserting herself into an television interview with CBS Sunday Morning while the program described her as a “constant presence” in his life.
“They’re really into each other," a source close to the couple told PEOPLE earlier this year. "He’s totally hypnotized by her and completely under her spell.”
