In the 2024 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks stunningly took two cornerbacks out of the University of Auburn. The shock wasn't necessarily that the players weren't good, but that Auburn wasn't that good in the season before. How [could they not have one](https://12thmanrising.com/regrading-seattle-seahawks-2024-draft-hidden-gems-big-misses) but two potentially good NFL CBs?
The truth appears to be, they didn't. While [Nehemiah Pritchett is still](https://12thmanrising.com/seahawks-who-may-have-play-bigger-roles-2025-nfl-season) on the Seattle roster, though his ability to help the team win games is still in doubt, DJ James was released before final roster cuts were made in 2024.
He found his way to the New England Patriots this season, but that was short-lived. After making the initial 53-man roster, he was released this week. The surprise wasn't that he was let go by the Pats, but that he even made the roster to begin with.
New England Patriots release former Seattle Seahawks draft pick DJ James
------------------------------------------------------------------------
James was a failure from the start of his career. He was putrid in coverage for the Seattle Seahawks in training camp and the preseason last year. So bad, in fact, that the team chose not to even have him return to the practice squad. He was signed by the Patriots to their practice squad in 2024, and there he stayed.
Of course, as one NFL team chose to take a chance on James after his initial release by the Seahawks means another team could pick him up. If they do, the chances are he sticks on the practice squad somewhere. The question isn't his attitude, but simply a lack of league-ready talent.
His performance in training camp this preseason for New England was solid, but that was a lie. The Patriots clearly had no real faith in him to be good in real games, and he only got two snaps in Week 1. He still allowed a catch for 11 yards on one of those snaps.
As for Nehemiah Pritchett, he did make the Seattle Seahawks active roster this season. In Week 1, he didn't play any defensive snaps, but saw 15 on special teams. He made a tackle and whiffed on another two. One might wonder how much longer it will be before he joins DJ James on the NFL free agent market.
