International round-up

Jarrod Bowen was one of five senior Hammers on international duty on Tuesday night as the winger won his 17th England cap in Serbia.

Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win in the World Cup qualifier with the Irons skipper appearing as a second half substitute in Belgrade, replacing Noni Madueke 14 minutes from the end of normal time. And he was close to adding an assist to his national tally when setting up a simple chance for Olly Watkins, only for the Villa man to be flagged offside.

Over in Bolivia there was a shock defeat for Lucas Paqueta's Brazil, with the favourites going down 1-0 to America Mineiro forward Miguel Terceros' first-half penalty. Fellow midfielder Matues Fernandes endured a tough evening in Scotland, being sent off for a second bookable offence having already been yellow carded in his country's 2-0 Under 21 win - while Malick Diouf was also on the winning side as Senegal beat Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s DR Congo 2-0.

Academy players Michael Forbes and Gabriel Caliste were also in action for Northern Ireland and Mauritius respectively; Forbes helped the Irish to a 1-1 draw in Georgia while Caliste was on the wrong side of a 3-1 scoreline in Angola.

Handy Andy

Hammers midfielder Andy Irving admitted he is delighted to remain part of Graham Potter's first team squad despite being widely tipped to leave the club during the summer transfer window. The Scottish international was the subject of bids from Scottish champions Celtic and two Championship clubs during the recent window but none of the offers received were considered sufficient to prise the player from east London - much to his delight.

"Ultimately for me, I'm in a good place here at West Ham. It can be tough when you're maybe not getting the number of starts you desire, but I always believe that things can take time," he said. "I'm in my second year now, so I feel a lot more comfortable, and I've got a bit more of a stand within the squad and within the environment. It can be difficult mentally, but your focus has to be on what you can control, which is by working hard and training well every day.

"I really enjoy it here so I was keen to stay and continue giving my best for the club. I believe that I'll have another progressive year here and I'll benefit a lot from it. I really enjoy the work that we put in here and I really enjoy the role that I have within the squad both on and off the pitch."

Two more chosen for live broadcast

West Ham United Women's forthcoming WSL fixtures against Aston Villa and London City Lionesses have been selected for live broadcast by Sky Sports.

Fresh from having their opening game of the season at Tottenham broadcast live last weekend, Rehanne Skinner's team host Villa at Dagenham's Victoria Road (aka Chigwell Construction Stadium) on Sunday 5 October with the game kicking off at midday. Their trip to the recently promoted Lionesses a week later, at the Copperjax Community Stadium on Sunday 12 October is also scheduled to be broadcast live on Sky and via the (free to access) BWSL YouTube channel.

'Inside matters' programme launched

On what is recognised worldwide as Suicide Prevention Day, West Ham have announced the club will be rolling out a new suicide prevention programme. According to the club, "The initiative will see vital mental health signposting and support made available on matchdays, ensuring fans have access to resources when they need them most."

“Each life lost to suicide affects around 135 others - family, friends, colleagues and communities," said West Ham United Foundation Health Manager Herve Bessieres. "With over 6,000 deaths a year in the UK, that means more than 800,000 people are impacted annually - enough to fill London Stadium more than ten times over. Football clubs like West Ham have a unique platform to reach people - that’s why it’s so important we use matchdays to break down stigma, signpost support and remind people that they are not alone."

Cyber men

West Ham United have announced a "multi-year extension" to the club's existing sponsorship deal with cyber security firm Salus, which began in 2024.

The company, who are responsible for protecting the club against online attacks and controlling the London Olympic Stadium's light systems have extended their contract with the club. "After a successful year of supporting West Ham's cyber maturity roadmap through multiple work streams, it's very exciting to continue providing consultancy through our technical, assurance and managed services capabilities," said Sales Director Greg King. "We look forward to building on this foundation and further developing West Ham United's cyber capabilities."
