Aston Villa man reveals his stance on Emiliano Martinez staying – Not a problem for him

Aston Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot has insisted he is happy that Emiliano Martinez has ended up staying at the club this season.

[Voetbal Primeur](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuws/1684806/bizot-vertelt-over-aston-villa-en-transfer.html) have an interview with the Dutch goalkeeper today, in which he makes it clear he has no issues with Martinez remaining at Villa Park.

The Argentine goalkeeper had been expected to leave Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, particularly following a teary farewell in front of fans at the end of last season.

He was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, who did make overtures early in the transfer window for him. Indeed, it was reported that Ruben Amorim was pushing to sign the Aston Villa star but couldn’t convince those above him to do so.

The links continues until the end of the window but Manchester United instead signed Senne Lammens in a €21m move from Royal Antwerp.

That left Martinez at Aston Villa and facing the ire of the fanbase, who believe he has tried to push his way out of the club this summer.

He’ll have to compete with Bizot, who arrived in the summer and has started this season as first choice, but the Dutch goalkeeper has no issue with that.

“As a colleague, Martínez has been a fantastic guy from day one,” he said.

“He’s helpful, incredibly kind, and I think we understand each other very well. We’ve had a good connection and rapport from day one. So, I’m glad he’s staying.”

Indeed, it seems Bizot made the move to Aston Villa this summer so he could be a number two, so he’s happy to defer to the Argentine goalkeeper now that he’s definitely staying in Birmingham.

“I told my agent: find a top club where I can become a second-choice goalkeeper,” he explained.

“I think a kind of switch would be good for me: from performing and playing every week to a phase where I want and can share my knowledge and experience with other, younger goalkeepers, so I’m no longer in their way.

“It’s always great to be the first-choice goalkeeper, but I’ve consciously sought this. If I can fulfil it this way, that’s fantastic for me, of course.”
