Manchester United have already seen 10 departures this summer window, and there looks to be another one.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim made it clear earlier in the transfer window that there were several players he wanted to offload as they had no role in his plans at Old Trafford and were costing the club in wages.
However, there is one member of Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ who is yet to leave the club, and despite the fact that the transfer window in the UK has closed, there seems to be a chance for him to leave to join a Turkish side instead.
Man United have “reached an agreement” for Malacia exit
Tyrell Malacia never had much of a chance at United. His role in the squad was very much a fringe on
e, and Amorim decided to send him out on loan in January to join Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
After making just eight appearances for PSV, Malacia returned to United, and the club were then tasked with finding his next move away. After they couldn’t sell him during the transfer window, it now seems a loan move to Turkey is the outcome for the defender.
According to Turkish Journalist Resat Can Ozbudak on X, Turkish side Eyupspor have reached an agreement to sign Malacia on loan. He posted: “Eyupspor has reached an agreement with Manchester United for the loan transfer of Tyrell Malacia. The decision is awaited.”
It isn’t yet understood how the deal will work regarding Malacia’s wages, as Man United will want to reduce some of his salary off their books as they aim to stay on the right side of PSR guidelines.
Is letting Tyrell Malacia leave a mistake?
With Malacia’s departure imminent, Amorim may be looking at his depth at the wing-back position with some concern. So far this season, Patrick Dorgu has played in the left-back role and looked good, so you would assume that he is Amorim’s long-term option.
But, behind him, United have Noussair Mazraoui. Although Amorim prefers to play Mazraoui as one of a back three rather than a wing back, he has had injury problems over the past year.
If Dorgu were to get injured, Amorim may have some tough selection decisions moving forward, because he would either have to play somebody out of position, rely on a lack of experience, or change his system completely, something that he seems continuously unwilling to do.
However, the United boss was very certain on his lack of a role to offload Malacia, so he must have a plan to cover the depth at the position.
