Leeds United signed 10 players this summer, but managed to end the transfer window on a poor note. Fans expected the club to make one or two additions on deadline day, but did not get their wish.
In the middle of the transfer window, Leeds had lined up moves for big names like Bilal El Khannouss, Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao. Many believed that the club could land one of these star attackers after the spent relatively little money on other parts of the team. Leeds spent a total of around £98million this summer, with only just a fraction of it being spent on attackers.

Fans went into the international break fuming that Leeds failed to land a big name target. And no attacker was signed despite Daniel Farke calling for reinforcements all summer. The Whites’ managing director Robbie Evans address local media this past week to explain what went on in the window. When asked why the club failed to land big targets like Rodrigo Muniz, Evans said that the club had maxed out their PSR room. He also added that the team ”spent everything possible” during the window.
Football finance expert Dan Plumley however, believes that the club only came out with that statement to save face. Leeds had a really bad end to the transfer window after a great start.
“I think, yeah, it’s probably a little bit more of a reaction to the defeat against Sheffield Wednesday and kind of pouring cold water on that to an extent, because we won’t know fully where they’re at until we kind of see it a year or so down the line.” he said to MOT Leeds News.
“But you look at the losses, pre-tax losses of £60million in 2024, we know that PSR is a challenge for newly promoted clubs because of the parameters that they’re working under.
“There’s nothing clear-cut at the minute from the outside looking in that would suggest that they are maxed out against PSR. And of course, their revenue is going to go up in the Premier League.
“It was up and around £190m when they were last in there, dropped to around £120m in the Championship, but it’ll go back up to £180m.”
