Real Betis have sent a cheeky message to Nottingham Forest and their new head coach, Ange Postecoglou.
Forest confirmed Postecoglou's appointment at the City Ground on Tuesday after the decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo. The new Reds boss will take charge of Forest for the first time in Saturday's early kick-off at Arsenal in the Premier League.
Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham this summer after the club finished 17th in the top-flight last season - their lowest ever in the Premier League era. The Australian did however lead Spurs to victory in the Europa League - their first major trophy in 17 years.
The ex-Celtic boss will now be hoping to win Europe's second-tier trophy again with Forest looking forward to European football on Trentside for the first time in almost 30 years. One such opponent in the League Phase will be La Liga side Betis, who have sent a message on X (Twitter) in response to Postecoglou's appointment.
"Glad to be facing Ange Postecoglou in his first season, not in his second," they said, followed by an emoji trophy in reference to his now infamous record of winning trophies in his second season at a club.
Four new coaches have also joined Postecoglou at Forest. Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery, Sergio Raimundo and Rob Burch will all join his backroom team.
A club statement read: “Following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as the Club’s new Head Coach, the quartet are taking up crucial roles within the coaching team.
“Jedinak, who himself played nearly 100 times in the Premier League and worked with Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, arrives as Assistant Coach. The 41-year-old also played 79 times for Australia and was handed the captain’s armband by Postecoglou ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
“Montgomery and Raimundo are joining, both as an Assistant Coach, having held the same roles under Postecoglou at Tottenham. The former has a wealth of experience in English football, making over 350 appearances as a player for Sheffield United. As a Head Coach for the Central Coast Mariners, he won the A-League Men Championship in 2023.
“Raimundo worked with Montgomery and Postecoglou at Central Coast Mariners and Tottenham respectively. The 41-year-old possesses extensive international coaching experience from clubs in countries including Senegal, Brazil, Canada and Austria.
“Burch also worked at Spurs with Postecoglou as Goalkeeping Coach and joins Forest in the same role. As the new coaching staff arrive, everyone at the Club warmly welcomes Mile, Nick, Sergio and Rob to Nottingham Forest.”
