Sandro Tonali has been hailed as the ‘undisputed beacon’ of the Italian national team, after another impressive display for his country during this international break.
The praise comes from journalist Fabrizio Biasin on [Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/editoriale/gattuso-barella-tonali-gudmundsson-e-pure-sinner-una-settimana-di-sciocche-sentenze-e-viva-il-bar-sport-oggi-piu-che-mai-2144204) who was full of praise for the Newcastle star after his performances for Italy this week.
The Newcastle United star played in both games for Italy in World Cup qualifying, managing 76 minutes in the 5-0 win over Estonia and 90 minutes in the 5-4 win over Israel on Monday.
He received plenty of praise for his performances too, with various reports around Italy hailing his display against Israel in particular, labelling him as outstanding and showing ‘courage and clarity’.
The 25-year-old is very much a key player for Newcastle and Italy at this moment in time, putting his troubles firmly behind him to bounce back and get his career back on track.
He was suspended for 10 months in 2023 for gambling related offences in Italy, with that extend by a further two months in May 2024. He returned last season and was a key player as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League.
And Biasin believes the Newcastle star deserves praise for the manner in which he’s returned and become a star man.
“I wanted to say something else about Sandro Tonali, a top-notch player: in my opinion, he’s great,” he said.
“And another thing: he’s great because he overcame a very difficult situation with off-field issues that could have brought him down but didn’t.
“And finally: he’s great because, perhaps, in addition to the skills he inherited from his parents, he plays in a league where pace and hitting prevail over tactics, and, well, maybe that’s also what makes him the undisputed beacon of our national team. And in any case, he’s great.”
