What Paul Scholes said about Viktor Gyokeres that annoys Arsenal fans

Paul Scholes was left in stitches after a football fan mocked Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres by saying he looks like “he’s playing with jeans on.”

The Swedish forward, who joined the Gunners from Sporting CP this summer, has already opened his account in the Premier League with a brace against newly promoted Leeds United.

However, he failed to score on his debut against Manchester United and again drew a blank in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to champions Liverpool at Anfield, prompting early questions about his effectiveness against tougher opposition.

The debate resurfaced during The Overlap Fan Debate, where Scholes and Jamie Carragher discussed potential contenders for the Golden Boot. Spurs fan representative Ben Bowman sparked laughter by joking about Gyokeres’ style of play, with Scholes unable to contain his amusement.

“He looks like he’s playing with jeans on!” 😂

You just know Scholsey wasn’t letting that comment slide… 👀

“Did you hear what somebody said?” Scholes added after the laughter died down. “I don’t know who it was, but they said, ‘He looks like he’s playing with jeans on.’”

Despite the light-hearted jibe, Gyokeres’ goalscoring record speaks volumes. The 27-year-old netted 68 goals in just 66 Primeira Liga matches for Sporting and has been equally prolific for Sweden, scoring 15 times and providing seven assists for his country, including a goal in a 2-2 draw with Slovenia during the recent international break.

Arsenal fans will be hoping Gyokeres quickly adapts to the demands of English football and reproduces his lethal form in front of goal. With Mikel Arteta still chasing his first major trophy, the striker is expected to play a pivotal role in the club’s ambitions this season.

The Gunners resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday with a home fixture against Nottingham Forest, now managed by Ange Postecoglou following Nuno Espírito Santo’s dismissal.
