We are still awaiting the return of the Premier League, but the international break has now effectively concluded for England. It was a successful period for Thomas Tuchel’s men, winning both of their games and keeping clean sheets in each.
We’ll be looking at five England players who gave a strong account of themselves during the break.
All of them can considered as fringe contenders for the England World Cup squad, but they each gave their chances a huge boost with their peformances over the course of the week.
Noni Madueke
Noni Madueke’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer was ridiculed by some cynics – while he has yet to prove fully his worth to the Gunners, he was one of the top players Vs Liverpool in the narrow 1-0 defeat and showed Gooners what he will offer.
Also that confidence has continued in his game as he was on top form for his country during the international break.
Noni Madueke was unstoppable against Serbia never afraid to take on his man and was a constant threat and a more than adequate replacement for Bukayo Saka.
Serbia had no answer for his jinking runs. He capped off his excellent display with a goal in the 35th minute and he was definitely worthy of a 9/10 on the night.
Ezri Konsa
Ezri Konsa has been on the fringes of England’s setup for a while now, but the Aston Villa man may have cemented his spot with a brilliant defensive display against Serbia.
Konsa scored England’s third goal of the game and helped the Three Lions keep a clean sheet.
Tuchel is currently weighing up options at the back, but Konsa’s fine international form could be just what the doctor ordered. Konsa was a solid 8/10 on the night.
