Egyptian star Omar Marmoush has joined the list of significant absences, having sustained an injury while representing his country against Burkina Faso in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The match ended in a goalless draw.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed in an official statement that Marmoush has a knee bruise and will undergo medical tests to determine the severity of the injury and the length of his absence.

Marmoush's injury brings the number of players expected to miss Manchester City to nine, while Manchester United is currently without four.

Possible absences from Manchester City:

Omar Marmoush (knee injury), John Stones, Rayan Cherki, Mateo Kovacic, Kalvin Phillips, Josko Gvardiol, Abdulkadir Husanov, Phil Foden, Savinho

Possible absences from Manchester United:

Lissandro Martinez, Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot

Both teams will be hoping to capitalize on the match to make a fresh start after a sluggish start to the league season. Manchester City has one win and two losses, while Manchester United has one win, one draw, and one loss.

The match is expected to witness the debut of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who joined Manchester City on the final day of the summer transfer window from Paris Saint-Germain.
