Leeds United were rejected by 24-year-old Everton target late on in the window

Everton target Nicolas Raskin turned down the opportunity to join Daniel Farke’s Leeds United this summer.

Nicolas Raskin turned down the chance to play in the Premier League. The Belgian international had the opportunity to join Leeds United, but according to a report from TBR, the Rangers midfielder turned it down.

After coming up the ranks at Standard Liege and making a name for himself while playing for their first team, Raskin joined the Rangers at the start of 2023, and he hasn’t looked back since. He became one of their mainstays in no time.

While he has been a key figure in the team over the years, the 24-year-old has found himself out of favour under Russell Martin. Fans were furious to see him left out of the squad for the fixture against rivals Celtic last time out.

He was already attracting a lot of interest throughout the summer, and with Martin dropping him from the squad, it led to further speculation. Amidst uncertainty around his future at Rangers, multiple English clubs enquired about him in the final week of the transfer window.

Raskin turned down a Premier League move

Everton and Leeds United were two clubs that held talks with Rangers about the 24-year-old. While the Scottish club were ready to negotiate his departure for the right price, Raskin was determined to continue at the club and work his way back into the starting XI.

The negotiations didn’t advance after they became aware of the fact that the Belgian sensation was not ready to leave Ibrox. Daniel Farke was keen on adding more quality in the centre of the park, and Raskin was quite high on their wishlist. While they did make a move, the player turned it down in favour of staying at the Scottish club.

If he fails to work his way back into Martin’s plans, the situation could change in the winter. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Everton or Leeds try to secure his services again when the window reopens in January.
