According to head coach Matt LaFleur, the Green Bay Packers have no plans to trade Romeo Doubs. That hasn’t stopped rumors from being rehashed around the clock. Now, however, Packers fans on social media are overwhelmingly on his side. That hasn’t exactly been the case in recent history. In fact, while surely he has had a few staunch defenders, compared to six months ago, it’s quite the turnaround from the fanbase en masse.
Doubs has found place in Packers fans’ favor
Last season, everyone and their grandmother ripped Doubs for dropping all those passes. He had issues off the field too – the team suspended him a game for missing practices. Well-founded or not, trade rumors swirled during the offseason. More than a few Wisconsinites were ready to say good riddance.

Heading into the 2025 season, though, that sentiment changed. At 25 years old, with three years of experience, Doubs ironically qualifies as a veteran in the receiver room nursery. In the absence of Christian Watson, Doubs is the de facto leader of the group. Draft picks Matthew Golden and Savion Williams need someone to look up to, and Doubs, for all his maturity issues last season, is that guy.
As Green Bay’s roster coalesced, hype was high. When the Packers traded for Micah Parsons, it skyrocketed. A dominant Week 1 win over the Lions hit the accelerator on fans’ Super Bowl hopes.
Why would the Packers even entertain the notion of subtracting talent from a contending roster? What would a Doubs trade return? A fourth-round draft pick? Most fourth-rounders don’t turn into a player like Doubs, a former No. 132 selection, and it certainly wouldn’t help the Packers now.

With all the above as context, Packers faithful predictably rushed to defend their man against the latest reiteration of trade gossip. This time, it was a team writer suggesting “several teams” – unidentified, naturally – had called about Doubs.

“Keep him! We are playing for a Super Bowl this year,” posted another.
One Doubs defender trolled, “He’s available for 2 number one picks and a three time pro bowl defensive tackler 😂.”
And so on, scrolling down through the comment section:
“Why would we trade him his contract is good and he’s a vet teaching our new guys.”
“Leave our modern day Greg jennings alone.”
“The only thing they should hear is the dial tone.”

A handful of haters chimed in, of course, but they are drowned out by the flock of supporters. At this point, in fact, Doubs might be overvalued. Fandom blows on a fickle wind. Shocker.
Say what you want, Doubs earned the love in Week 1, leading Packers targets with 68 receiving yards. Both of his grabs came on chunk plays, one a 48-yard bomb that set up a touchdown pass to Jayden Reed on the next play. On short rest, Doubs and the rest of Green Bay’s offense should have a chance to feast against a weak Commanders defense on Thursday night.
