Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has completed his move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg after being released by the Reds at the end of last season.
The Dane made over 100 appearances for United after leaving Brentford on a free transfer in 2022. After three years at the club, the decision was made to allow Eriksen to leave Old Trafford at the expiry of his contract.
Eriksen was offered the chance to sign for Hollywood-owned Wrexham in the Championship but turned the opportunity down. Recently, he has been training at Swedish club Malmo to keep his fitness levels high.
However, with the summer window now shut, the 33-year-old has managed to put pen to paper in Germany. Discussing his move to Wolfsburg, the Dane said: "VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga – I’m really looking forward to this new adventure.
"I’m convinced we can achieve something together at Wolfsburg. The talks with the club bosses went very well.
"I immediately sensed that Paul Simonis has a clear vision for the team and for me personally. The fact that there are several familiar faces in the squad from the Danish national team makes VfL a particularly attractive proposition for me."
Having acquired the signature of Eriksen, Wolfsburg's sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz explained what drew the club to completing the deal. "We’re really pleased that this opportunity has arisen for us at short notice," he said.
"In Christian Eriksen, we’re getting a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level. His enormous experience, his quality on the pitch and his personality will be a valuable boost to our young players in particular.
"We’ve deliberately made structural changes this summer and signed several talented youngsters with great potential. Christian will complement our experienced captain, Max Arnold, perfectly.
"He’s a true leader who can make a difference on and off the pitch." Eriksen could make his debut for his new club on Saturday when they host Koln in the Bundesliga.
