49ers losing quarterback again

The San Francisco 49ers were hopeful that this season would bring better injury luck than their 2024 campaign, in which injuries to star players throughout the campaign resulted in the Niners missing the playoffs just one season removed from facing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, it looks like the 2025 season will be just as ominous for San Francisco on the injury front. Earlier this week, San Francisco put tight end George Kittle on injured reserve, and things are trending poorly for quarterback Brock Purdy, per one prominent NFL insider.

“Ahead of Sunday’s game at New Orleans, 49ers QB Brock Purdy is not practicing today due to his left shoulder and toe injuries,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday.

“49ers HC Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Brock Purdy could miss ‘multiple weeks’ and that he is a ‘long shot’ to play Sunday at New Orleans. 49ers QB Mac Jones is in line to start.”

Fans reacted to the brutal development on social media.

“At some point it just becomes hard to accept that the injury stuff is simply bad luck. Being among the most injured teams in the league 6 out of the last 7 years can’t be luck,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Cursed: They are cursed. Seriously, did they build their facility over a burial ground or something?” someone else wanted to know.

“The 49ers pay top dollar for their guys who are always injured CMC Kittle and Purdy haven’t been able to play a full season and yet all got top market deals and then continue to get hurt,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how Jones does in place of Purdy.
