Kalvin Phillips timeline given as Leeds United link to Manchester City star grows

Leeds United fans had one of their best seasons ever last year, when they won promotion to the Premier League. Spurs loanee Manor Solomon played a big part in that.

And because of his performances, most fans called on the team to add him on a permanent deal. Unfortunately, he chose another destination this summer. Kalvin Phillips is another name that popped up in the transfer window, the midfielder continues to be linked with a return to Elland Road. Fans want to see one of their best players in recent years return to play for his boyhood club.

Graeme Bailey has provided an update on the links to the Manchester City star, and if a move is still possible.

Leeds United News asked: “Because Phillips simply isn’t going to play much under Guardiola for the next four months, is he?”

Graeme Bailey replied:

“No. But yeah, that return to Elland Road didn’t happen, even if Phillips wanted to come back to Leeds. He will have to wait until January.

“You never know [they could cancel his contract before then]. But, obviously, clubs can’t sign him until January if he does that, anyway. Let’s see.”

The situation still remains almost the same, any move for the midfielder would have to take place in January. He only recently returned to training on grass after recovering from surgery this summer.

Do Leeds need Kalvin Phillips?

At this point in time, the only benefit a Kalvin Phillips return will bring is an emotional one. He has barely played any football in the past few years, and his injuries continue to follow him. Many thought his last loan deal to Ipswich would have him on the path to comeback, but it also ended with an injury.

Leeds are currently stacked in the midfield department, and have a number of players with a similar style to Phillips. Trying to sign him at this age, and the wages he is on would not be a smart business decision for the 49ers.
