The Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown has established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL since joining the league in 2021.
It’s not just Lions fans that view the two-time All-Pro as one of the best in the game right now.
Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II appeared in a recent video with Jordan Schultz where he was asked to name his top-5 current receivers in the NFL.
After picking the Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase, Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb and Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown, the Denver Broncos cornerback paused before selecting St. Brown as his final choice and giving an explanation.
“He is underrated. I think some people look at the highlight plays, the highlight reels, but I think he just gets the job done at his position,” Surtain said. “He finds a way to get open and he’s always reliable. He does all the dirty work and stuff so I have much respect for guys like that.”
St. Brown has been the fixture of consistency with the Lions since being selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Despite being considered undersized, in 67 games St. Brown has nearly 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns and has caught over 100 passes in each of the last three seasons.
St. Brown is now 76 catches away from tying Michael Thomas’ record for most receptions through a player’s first five seasons in the NFL (510).
Surtain has seen St. Brown up close twice in his NFL career, in 2021 and against in 2023.
As a rookie, St. Brown had eight catches for 73 yards against the Broncos before posting 112 yards and a touchdown on seven catches in the second meeting.
There won’t be a meeting between the two elite players this season, but there’s always hope for another duel of two of the best at their position way down the line in the postseason.
