The Seattle Seahawks came out on the short end of a hard-fought battle against their bitter rivals from Northern California. They had their chances to win, and this defender created many of them. He certainly did all he could to put Seattle in the win column.
That Week 1 loss is a tough pill to swallow. Any loss is difficult, but when the game is in hand multiple times, it's that much worse. And losing to the freaking Niners makes it that much worse, of course. Despite the loss, the Seahawks had [plenty of winners](https://12thmanrising.com/winners-losers-seattle-seahawks-heartbreaking-loss-49ers) in this game. I may bring up a couple of losers later; we'll see.
But let's focus on something good, shall we? Or someone, to be more precise. Julian Love played an outstanding game in the 2025 home opener. Maybe it's odd to say a guy who's been to the Pro Bowl is on the rise, but he was exceptional. Look at it this way, 12s: what would the score have been without Julian Love defending the back end?
Julian Love did it all for the Seahawks in Week 1
-------------------------------------------------
Listen, if you wanna be nitpicky, yeah, he committed a penalty on a drive that eventually led to the Niners' lone field goal. But it was on the first play of the drive and gave San Fran just five yards. Brock Purdy ran for 13 on the next play.
So it was hardly a critical error - you know, like Riq Woolen's illegal contact penalty that offset an intentional grounding call on Purdy earlier. If that had been his only bad play, instead of about [his fifth worst](https://12thmanrising.com/seattle-seahawks-biggest-loser-loss-49ers-painfully-obvious), we'd all be happy this week.
So what did Julian Love do right? Well, let's see. In the second quarter, he sacked Purdy for a 12-yard loss. That led to the 49ers' second punt of the game. In the third quarter, Love bailed Woolen out for the penalty that negated Purdy's intentional grounding call.
That drive did eventually stall, but Love knifed through the 49ers' line and blocked the 36-yard field goal attempt. That preserved what was at that point still a 10-7 Seahawks lead.
Love had another quarterback hit, a tackle for a loss, and led the team with eight solo tackles, 10 in all. So yeah, it was a quiet day for Julian Love. If all the Seahawks play at his level, the next game will have a much better outcome.
