One of the best aspects of attending a live NBA game is experiencing the cheers and support of the fans.
Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is well aware of that, and that is why he is trying to find San Antonio’s very best fans.
The Spurs are holding open tryouts for a new “supporter’s section,” which will be filled with loud, proud fans for all 2025-26 home games.
Wembanyama came up with the idea and spoke about it to ESPN.
“If this group of ultras reaches its full potential, I have no doubt that it’s going to help us win games in the future for sure,” Wembanyama said. “I mean, the 41 regular season games at home this season, that’s 41 opportunities for them to push in the fourth quarter and give us that extra energy and that second wind that can give us the win.”
Wembanyama was inspired by soccer and basketball fans throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
In those regions, the fans are incredibly loud, committed, and engaged for every second of the game.
They sing songs, hold banners, and create chants – which is exactly what the Spurs have in mind.
Wembanyama will be on hand for the tryouts this weekend, and he will judge people who are ready for a long-term commitment.
To be eligible for this super fan section, a person has to promise to attend at least 75 percent of home games and participate in all “chants and rituals.”
On top of that, there is a $999 membership cost to be in the new club, but it comes with discounts and opportunities to meet special guests.
For the right fan, this package could be well worth it.
Wembanyama has high hopes for his team in the new season, and he wants these special kinds of fans to come along for the ride.
