The Los Angeles Rams opened up the 2025 season with a 14-9 victory over the Houston Texans, but did so without using two of their more notable selections in this year’s draft.
Second-round draft pick tight end Terrance Ferguson and fourth-round selection running back Jarquez Hunter both did not play in the season opener, with Hunter being a healthy inactive.
Ferguson didn’t receive a single snap in what was supposed to be his professional debut, but the coaching staff opted to use tight ends Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen instead.
Turf Show Times’ Blaine Grisak named the lack of usage on the two rookies as an overreaction
“Two rookies who many were excited about heading into the season were Terrance Ferguson and Jarquez Hunter. It was expected that Ferguson would take over some of the Cooper Kupp things in the offense while Hunter added some explosiveness to the run game,” Grisak wrote. “Fast forward to Week 1 and Ferguson didn’t play a single offensive snap and Hunter was inactive.”
Ferguson was coming off a groin injury that kept him out of the first two preseason matchups, which could explain the lack of playing time.
For Hunter, it is a different story. The former Auburn Tiger was named an inactive while a running back in the practice squad was elevated.

Tight end Colby Parkinson sustained a shoulder injury in the season opener, but was still able to play 32 snaps against the Texans.
Parkinson did not participate in the Rams’ practice on Wednesday, making way for Terrance Ferguson to have an opportunity to get snaps in Week 2.
Rams head coach Sean McVay affirms that it was the injury Ferguson suffered in training camp that led to the lack of snaps in Week 1.
“Ferguson is going to be a factor for us. We’ve got to be able to figure out a way to get him involved,” McVay said, via Rams Wire. “He had the groin injury where he missed a bunch of time. That type of game, felt like that was going to be the best approach.”
Running Back Room In LA
Kyren Williams

The Los Angeles Rams were going to use running back Kyren Williams to do the bulk of the rushing load in the 2025-26 season.
William had 18 rushing attempts, with the only other running back to get a rush play being Blake Corum, rushing for two yards.
The RB who was elevated in the season opener, Cody Schrader, did not receive an offensive snap, leaving a question as to why Hunter was made inactive if the player wouldn’t receive a snap.
This poses a concern for Hunter and his role with the Rams. Williams will receive most of the snaps, but Hunter could get some rushing plays when Williams is on the sideline getting rest.
McVay said that he would like to get Blake Corum more involved in the offense, which could limit Hunter’s role on the Rams in his rookie season.
