Moise Kean is said to be a striker that Manchester United seriously considered signing during the summer transfer window.
The club initially intended to sign Liam Delap around the same time as they agreed a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha. Meeting the release clauses in their contracts would have cost a combined £92.5million, but Delap instead decided to join Chelsea for £30million.
United then spent more than double that amount on Benjamin Sesko. They had previously sounded out Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa and Viktor Gyokeres before Arsenal signed the Sweden international for £64million.
Italian online newspaper Tutto Juve claims United now 'regret' not signing Kean. They note that the former Everton forward had a £45million release clause active for the first 15 days of July.
The CIES Football Observatory, a research group within the International Centre for Sports Studies, now estimates the player's transfer value between £57-67million. However, that is also almost the same price as they list for Rasmus Hojlund, whom Napoli have an obligation to sign for £38million next dependent on certain conditions on top of a £5.2million loan fee.
Kean, much like Hojlund, spoke this summer about wanting to stay put. However, unlike the Denmark international, he got his wish and remains a Fiorentina player.
“I am highly motivated to keep going here,” Kean told reporters at their pre-season presentation event. “Fiorentina gave me so much and always helped me out, now it is good for me to return for this new season with new motivation and ready to give my best for Fiorentina.”
Kean has since then signed a four-year contract extension through to 30 June 2029. Sky Sport, however, reported at the time that there is a new release clause in that deal, up from £45million to £53million.
