Leeds United have signed 10 players in the summer transfer window, but the 49ers fell short in terms of attacking reinforcements.
Of course, for Daniel Farke and the 49ers, there is still a January transfer window where business can be conducted. However, Robbie Evans’ comments on the winter market for Leeds United were not particularly promising.
Speaking via The Athletic last week, Evans said: “Once we get through the first 10 games, you’re eight games from January. If you have to evaluate, we’ll use that; but our goal is to avoid January, if possible.
“There’s a reason we didn’t do a big thing in January last year or the year before. The goal is to be done early. Actually, we got all of our core guys done before the season even began, for that reason.”
It hints to a quiet period during that month, unless Leeds are in a desperate situation in terms of their league position or following an injury crisis of some sort.

Leeds’ January plans explained despite Robbie Evans claims
In the end, Leeds fans were just frustrated after deadline day, and following a positive start to the summer transfer window. In fact, Leeds were tipped to be one of the busiest sides in the market by many.
Leeds’ frugal 49ers spending has been laid bare in recent days, even if Evans claims Leeds ‘maxed out PSR’. Fans are not accepting of that standing after the failed attempts to bring in Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson late in the window.
Farke is disappointed at the end to the window, even if he knows it is a ‘blip’. Leeds were restricted financially via PSR, but many have not forgiven the 49ers for not granting Farke further reinforcements.
MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES
Now, The Daily Mail report the latest on the transfer situation, with January just 16 games away for Leeds. The report states “Incomings are expected in January even though managing director Robbie Evans had said Leeds’ goal is to ‘avoid January, if possible’.”
It adds that attention has shifted to the recruitment team, with Paraag Marathe, Evans, Adam Underwood, and Alex Davies the key decision-makers.
Aadam Patel writes: “Both Underwood and Davies have come through the ranks at the club and they have been tested. Credit is due for their early business but there are big questions to be answered.”

A more streamlined process at Leeds under the 49ers
Leeds United News sources have previously outlined a more streamlined approach this summer to previous campaigns, with the 49ers able to hire a number of their own and move on from the Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani regime.
The more coherent approach is, in part, thanks to the changes behind the scenes with a smaller team but also the people currently occupying the most vital roles — such as Underwood’s role alongside Farke.
Even with some bumps and without an extra creative player signed, Leeds have recruited well. However, above all, they have a more cohesive structure in place than the previous regime prior to the 49ers’ arrival.
They will need to be united heading into January, which is a far more difficult window to get right and bed players in quickly.
