Crystal Palace could face a battle to keep hold of one of their most prized assets down the line
Crystal Palace have made a solid start to the new Premier League season. They have five points on the board from their first three fixtures. The South London club drew with Chelsea away and Nottingham Forest at home in their first two games.
The Eagles then won 3-0 against Aston Villa last time out. Jean-Philippe Mateta, Marc Guehi and Ismaila Sarr got their goals at Villa Park as they secured an impressive three points. They are back in action after the international break as they look to keep their momentum going.
Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton wanted
According to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton is attracting ‘attention’ from elsewhere. The report suggests Liverpool, Newcastle United and Chelsea are admirers. Manchester United are also said to be interested in luring him to Old Trafford.
Wharton, 21, is tied down under the terms of a long-term deal so the Eagles are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon. He has a bright future ahead of him and will be worth a lot of money down the line. He made the switch to his current club back in 2024.
Prior to his move, he rose up through the academy ranks at Blackburn Rovers. He was a regular for his boyhood club at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team as a teenager. The Blackburn-born man went on to play 51 games before heading out the exit door.
Crystal Palace snapped him up to add more competition and depth to their midfield department. He has since made 47 outings, four of which have come this term. The youngster is one of their most prized assets and they won’t want to lose him anytime soon.
Crystal Palace success story for Adam Wharton
Wharton helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup earlier this year. They beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final at Wembley against the odds. Eberechi Eze, who has since been sold to Arsenal, scored their winner against Pep Guardiola’s men in the first half.
After joining the Eagles for £18million, he said at the time: “I've always wanted to play in the Premier League and to play for such a big club like Crystal Palace is a great honour. The way they've brought players from the Championship and developed them into world-class players in the Premier League is something that stood out to me, and it's a big reason why I wanted to come here."
He added: "I've been there [Blackburn] all my life, since I was six, so it was a difficult decision, but I'm delighted to be here and I can't wait to start."
Meanwhile, chairman Steve Parish said: "Adam's consistently impressive performances for Blackburn at such a young age have understandably caught the eye of many a club, but we believe Palace to be - as has so often been the case in recent years - the perfect place to harness his undoubted potential, and we look forward to working with him in the years ahead to do so."
