As speculation mounts over the future of West Ham manager Graham Potter, one name continues to surface among fans and pundits alike, Jose Mourinho. But according to former Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, the idea of Mourinho landing at the London stadium is far-fetched.
Speaking on his podcast No Tippy Tappy Football, Allardyce dismissed the possibility outright
“No I could not see David doing that personally. I think it would be too much for him.”

Allardyce, never one to shy away from self praise once declared there was “no coach more sophisticated than him” a sentiment that underscores his scepticism about Mourinho’s potential arrival.
Sullivan once said on Soccer AM, in 2015 “They’re not geniuses, managers” and went onto emphasise his experience in buying players, suggesting he sees more value in investing on the pitch than in the dug out.
This philosophy would clash dramatically with Mourinhos reputation who is known for commanding high budgets, demanding control over transfers and brings a high profile presence that often overshadows club leadership.
Given all of this a more understated successor is likelier should West Ham part ways with Potter.
Gareth Southgate remains the bookies favourite.
For now though following a 3-0 away win at Nottingham Forest, Potter will be looking for his second win of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, which should help ease the scrutiny surrounding his position.
