Liverpool join Arsenal in £35m midfielder transfer battle as Manchester United target wonderkid striker

The latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and more.

The transfer window may have closed but the rumour mill never seems to stop – so to keep you abreast of everything that could happen when deals start taking place again in January, we’re back with our regular morning round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting with a tale for Liverpool and Arsenal fans.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool “have joined the race” the sign VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller in the near future as the Reds look to add some depth and quality to their midfield – but they will face stiff competition for the Germany international.

Stiller is also linked with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the article, although it’s worth noting that several stories towards the end of the summer transfer window suggested that United were not serious contenders for Stiller’s signatures despite rumours.

Stuttgart “do not want to lose” a player they view as key in January so this article hints that a summer deal is more likely, but the Bundesliga side may not have a choice given that Stiller supposedly has a release clause worth around £35m in his contract.

The 3AM Verdict: Stiller is cheap enough that he’ll be the source of much speculation, but we don’t think United or Arsenal are genuinely interested as it stands, and we haven’t seen many stories corroborating Spurs’ potential involvement in the bidding. Which really leaves Liverpool, who could well want to bolster their defensive midfielder ranks given that they don’t really have any. If a team does need to make a splash in January, Stiller’s release clause makes him a very tempting target.

Manchester United & Liverpool ‘enter race’ to sign wonderkid

Over to a story from Spain, now – Iberian rumourmongers Fichajes allege that Liverpool are also going to “enter the race” for Barcelona youngster Dro Fernández, and will face competition from fierce rivals Manchester United.

The 17-year-old is apparently becoming “one of the most sought-after” youngsters in Europe and both United and Liverpool have now “shown interest” alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City, who it’s claimed were already monitoring the talented forward.

Apparently “the next months will be crucial” as Fernández decides his future, but there’s no words on what the finances of a deal might look like or whether Barcelona are making any attempts to keep their player at the Camp Nou.

The 3AM Verdict: There’s very little detail here and this all comes from a source we don’t consider to be especially reliable – not that it would be unusual for any of these teams to be scouting a very talented young striker. We don’t think that necessarily means a transfer is probable or imminent, however.

Arsenal star’s ‘uncertain future’ amid Saudi interest

Finally, a story which suggests that any Arsenal fans keen for the club to hold on to winger Gabriel Martinelli should perhaps brace themselves – because the Brazilian is “facing an uncertain future” amid interest from the Saudi Pro League, according to another report from Caught Offside.

While interest over the recent summer window was “never anything that advanced”, the 24-year-old is firmly on the Saudi radar and with his place in the first team “increasingly under threat” it’s not unlikely that a Middle Eastern move awaits.

While it’s suggested that a deal this summer wasn’t “ever really going to happen” and would have required a particularly substantial offer that didn’t arrive, it’s said that “Arsenal’s stance over a potential sale could shift” in the future. Martinelli himself was not that keen on such a deal either, it’s suggested.

The 3AM Verdict: This is another purely speculative piece and we’re not sure we’ve learned anything new other than gaining some fresh confirmation that there was indeed interest from Saudi Arabia – but that doesn’t tell us much about the chances of such a move taking place over the winter or next summer. But if Martinell’s form doesn’t improve soon, he may well find himself being shopped around.
