9 Goals in 11 Games Man Utd Wonderkid makes new breakthrough amid battle for his services

One of Manchester United’s top youth prospects has given a signal over where his international future may lie.

Last season Manchester United’s under-18s set the early stages of the FA Youth Cup alight with two young strikers playing side by side.

Gabriele Biancheri and Chido Obi were too much for opponents to handle, showing why United have two of the most highly rated young strikers in world football.

Obi has already made his first team debut, while Biancheri is waiting for his opportunity. Both players are currently with the under-21 squad.

And this week, they found themselves on opposing teams at international level.

Gabriele Biancheri makes under-21 debut

Gabriele Biancheri is celebrating making his Wales under-21 debut, coming off the bench in their 6-2 defeat against Denmark.

Chido Obi was an unused substitute for Denmark, he had played 45 minutes earlier in the week for the under-21s, stepping up from representing his country’s under-20 team in the summer.

Biancheri played the final 27 minutes of the game, and while he did not get on the scoresheet, he was glad to make another breakthrough.

The 18-year-old posted on Instagram: “Proud to have made my U21s Debut”.

Several of his United teammates responded, including Obi, who left a ‘heart emoji’ in reply.

Biancheri representing Wales, wanted by Canada

Gabriele Biancheri has represented Wales from under-16s now through to the under-21s. For the under-19s he was especially prolific, scoring nine goals in 11 appearances.

Biancheri’s goalscoring ability has drawn some attention from another country he is eligible to play for, Canada.

He was granted permission by Wales to ‘explore his options’ to train with Canada in the summer, with coach Jesse Marsch flatteringly comparing him to Jonathan David.

Biancheri’s latest move shows he has not been swayed, accepting the Wales’ under-21 call, and expressing excitement at making his first appearance for them.

The young striker is smart to keep his options open, but if his career progresses as he hopes, it might not be long until Biancheri gets a call to Wales’ senior squad.

Biancheri was on our list of players unlucky not to land a loan move this summer. But if things break his way, a first team call at United could lie ahead later this season too.
