Toon legend gives Yoane Wissa strict Newcastle United order after Brentford antics

Newcastle United supporters are excited to see their new No.9 in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Les Ferdinand has admitted he did not like Yoane Wissa forcing a Brentford exit - but backed the striker to score goals for Newcastle United to shut out the noise.

Pundits and fans across the country discussed Wissa’s and Alexander Isak’s actions throughout the summer. Both players downed tools at their respective clubs to force through an exit before the window slammed shut.

Ultimately, the duo’s tactics worked as they got their dream moves on deadline day. Wissa has claimed the No.9 shirt at St James’ Park and will help fill the void left by Isak, who joined Liverpool for a British record £130million.

Les Ferdinand on Yoane Wissa

Speaking to The Chronicle, Toon legend Ferdinand conceded he was not a fan of how Wissa forced a transfer. However, he backed the 29-year-old to use goals as his currency to silence the critics.

“Ok, perhaps he is not the traditional centre-forward or No.9 you would think about wearing the No.9 for Newcastle, but I am sure he will go there and thrive,” Ferdinand said. “I am still of the opinion that I am not sure I liked the way he went about things.

“The same way I didn’t like the way Isak went about things, but that is by the by now. It’s done and dusted so it is about, from a Newcastle point of view, Wissa needs to get his head down and score goals.

“He has proven that he can score goals in the Premier League and he seems pretty confident that he can do it at Newcastle on a regular basis, it’s exactly what we need.”
