Bruno Fernandes says Man Utd ace was one of 'two players' to rival him over 'something' he did, it's 'very important'

Bruno Fernandes singled out the only Manchester United star who was able to compete with him over an impressive stat in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The 31-year-old Portugal midfielder was the standout performer for Manchester United in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign amid the club’s turbulent form.

Bruno Fernandes made 57 appearances across all competitions last season and the United captain netted 19 times and registered 19 assists for the Red Devils.

The Portugal international’s stunning run of form in the 2024-25 season earned him the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award at United for a record-tying fourth time.

Fernandes showed his importance to the United first team during their woeful Premier League season, which ended with the Red Devils in 15th place in the table.

When discussing his shooting ability, Fernandes opened up about the commitment that he puts into the crucial trait for a midfielder when he is doing his training.

The ex-Sporting CP star spotlighted summer signing Matheus Cunha and how the ex-Wolves ace rivalled him for the most times scored outside the box last season.

“It’s about what you do in training,” Fernandes said.

“Obviously, it’s something I train a lot from different positions in training; I know I’m capable of it. It’s a big part of my game.

“Equally, [with] Matheus, we were the two players with more goals outside the box last season also, so it’s something that’s very important for me as a midfielder because most of the time the chance I get for a shot is from the outside of the box and everything.

“So, you need to train different positions because then also you get to the box and you need to get into the positions to score goals.”

Bruno Fernandes’ reaction to his shooting rating on EA Sports FC 26 after his comparison with Man Utd star Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha impressed with Wolves in the 2024-25 campaign and the United signing scored 17 times in 36 matches across all competitions for his former side.

Fernandes could not help but laugh after it was revealed that he had an 83 shooting rating on EA Sports FC 26, which was down two points from 2024’s EA Sports FC 25.

“83,” he reacted, before adding: “As the player with the most goals outside of the box, I think it should be a little bit higher, but it is what it is.

“I can’t make the rules. It’s still a good shot for the game.”

Fernandes has featured in all four of United’s matches in the 2025-26 campaign so far and the Red Devils midfielder has scored once for the Premier League club.
