“That’s my big goal” – Leeds United player makes his transfer intentions clear

Towards the end of the summer window, Leeds United let Isaac Schmidt complete a loan move to Werder Bremen, who have also secured a purchase option.

Last month, Bild reported the Bundesliga club secured a bargain deal with Leeds as they haven’t paid a loan fee, will cover Schmidt’s full salary of €1.5m per year and secured a €3m purchase option.

On Wednesday, Werder Bremen presented the Leeds owned player to the media and his comments are relayed by Deich Stube.

The German club had agreed terms with the 25-year-old in July and had to wait until the end of last month for Daniel Farke’s side to sanction a loan move. He’s pleased that the move finally went through and publicly expressed his desire to secure his long-term future at Werder Bremen.

“I’m currently looking for an apartment so I can really settle in Bremen. I’d like to play for Werder for a longer period. That’s my big goal. Of course, I know that a lot will depend on my performance here,” he said.

The fullback impressed on his Werder Bremen debut as he came off the bench to score in their 3-3 draw against Bayer Leverkusen before the international break.

He joined the Whites last summer and wasn’t able to feature regularly in his debut season in England. The Switzerland international is delighted to have enjoyed a good start with his new club.

“I got off to a perfect start with that goal. I’ve had a difficult time as a footballer recently. So, this week did us a lot of good. That was a dream,” Schmidt explained.
