Emeka Egbuka Lost Ball In The Lights On Game-Winning Catch

September 11th, 2025

Receiver Emeka Egbuka.

Joe truly hopes Emeka Egbuka is in the locker room today when the doors are flung open for the local pen and mic club because Joe has a couple of questions.

Mike Evans told Joe in the locker room after the game that Egubka called his own shot on the play that turned into the winning score last Sunday, his 25-yard catch from Baker Mayfield. That’s cool enough. But the legend grows.

It seems on that very pass, Egbuka lost the ball briefly in the lights of the Dixie Chicks’ birdcage, Egbuka told the Buccaneers’ social media team.

It may have helped that Egbuka had played in the Dixie Chicks’ birdcage in college and had two of his better games, both on a major stage.

He was on the Ohio State squad that lost to Georgia 42-41 in the college semifinals on New Year’s Eve 2022. Then in January, Ohio State beat Notre Dame there 34-23 to win the national title there.

Egbuka tore up the Bulldogs defense in the Peach Bowl on that New Year’s Eve night to close out 2022. Egbuka had a game-high eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. In the national championship, Egubka had six catches for 64 yards.

So perhaps Egbuka was already used to the dome lights when the Bucs played the Dixie Chicks last Sunday. We know he was comfortable on the big stage.
