Toti Gomes on Newcastle United challenge – ‘Newcastle’s stadium isn’t easy to win at…’

Toti Gomes is expecting a tough challenge when Wolves take on Newcastle United.

The Wolves captain admitting it isn’t easy to win at St James’ Park.

The Premier League start to the season has been difficult for Toti Gomes and his teammates, with three defeats and eight goals conceded.

Under Eddie Howe, the Newcastle v Wolves fixtures at St James’ Park have produced four wins in four games, with nine goals scored and only one conceded.

Newcastle United with no wins so far themselves but carrying no luck, deserving far more than the two points picked up so far, after having deserved wins over both Villa and Liverpool (with 11 and 10 men).

Toti Gomes on the challenge of facing Newcastle United speaking to the official club site:

“It’s a tough fixture but every game is.

“Newcastle’s stadium isn’t easy to win at but we know we are capable and we have a strong team.

“We need to respect them as a team but know that we can go there and beat them.

“We’re going to prepare well this week, there’s some players that are still away with their national team, but they’re going to arrive in time to keep working to try and go there and bring the three points home.

“Some of the players are going to arrive later than the others, because they’re a bit far away, but everybody’s going to be back, and for sure by the time of the game, everybody’s going to be ready to give everything.

“Of course, we’re not having the beginning to a season that we wanted and that we’ve been training and preparing for in pre-season, so it’s been tough.

I’m not going to say it’s easy to start the season with three losses and zero points, but it’s still early and there’s still a lot of time to improve. We know that we are capable of being in a much better position than we are right now, and we have the team and the coach, so we can do it.

“Maybe the international period was something that we needed. We needed a little break, to stop and correct a few things that we were not doing well. I think maybe this break’s going to help us, and it’s going to hopefully bring better things, because now the window is closed.

“It’s not the end of the world. Things don’t look that beautiful for us, but we cannot think negatively, keep positive and keep working hard, we still have a lot of time to improve, and we’re going to do it. We have the players for that, and we have to keep positive.

“Now, we have all the players that the Gaffer wanted to work with, and this break’s hopefully going to bring good things for us to improve from the last game. Now we’re together until the next market at least. We need to be focused on togetherness and belief, and keep working hard and being humble, respecting the other teams, but knowing that we are capable of doing what the other teams are doing too.

“Of course, we had some little mistakes in each of the games that we lost. We know that those little mistakes caused the defeats that we had. But these are things that we can correct, and we can still improve, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

“It was not easy, because players were coming in in different weeks, so sometimes we didn’t have that stability, but now all the players are together. For the Gaffer, I think it’s better because we’re going to have everybody here, there’s no more transfer window, so we know this is the squad that we have. This is the team that we have.”
