“It was a difficult time” – Defender finally speaks out after contentious Leeds United exit

Leeds United moved on a few players in the summer who were not part of Daniel Farke’s plans or were keen to leave. Isaac Schmidt was one of them who left Elland Road after spending just one season with the club.

Schmidt was part of the Leeds squad that scored 100 points in the Championship last season and earned promotion to the Premier League. However, he hardly played a part in it and was nothing more than a fringe player in the grand scheme of things.

It was clear early in the summer that the defender wanted to move on from Elland Road, and he had a deal in place with Werder Bremen for weeks. However, Leeds delayed loaning him out until they signed James Justin from Leicester City towards the end of the transfer window.

Bremen are covering his wages during his loan stint and didn’t pay a loan fee to Leeds. However, they have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Defender Isaac Schmidt indicated that his time at Leeds United was ‘difficult’

Schmidt scored early in his time at Werder Bremen and admitted that he is keen to put down roots in the German city in the near future.

The defender has made it clear that he wants to play for Werder Bremen for a long time, but is aware that he needs to earn a permanent deal with the Bundesliga club.

He is enjoying life at Werder Bremen and conceded that he needed this, as he had a difficult time as a footballer at Leeds, where he was not playing nearly enough football.

“I’m currently looking for an apartment so I can really settle in Bremen”, Schmidt has been quoted as saying by Deich Stube.

“I’d like to play for Werder for a longer period. That’s my big goal. Of course, I know that a lot will depend on my performance here.

“I got off to a perfect start with that goal. I’ve had a difficult time as a footballer recently.

“So, this week did us a lot of good. That was a dream.”
