Didi Hamann Says It Is A "Three Horse Race" For The Premier League Title As He Rules Out One Club From Challenging

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann expects Arsenal and Chelsea to pose the greatest threat to Arne Slot’s side in this season’s title race.

Speaking to Coin Poker (quotes via Metro), Hamann was dismissive when it came to one of his other former clubs, Manchester City, stating that the Reds only have two other teams to worry about:

“Arsenal are the biggest threat to Liverpool in the title race. With the signings of Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie, they now have a fantastic squad. They fielded a brilliant team against Liverpool, even with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard not able to start.”

“I expect Arsenal to be the main contender. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea turned it into a three-horse race. They are a dangerous side, capable of winning six, seven, or eight games in a row.”

“I don’t believe Manchester City can do that, but Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are the only teams I think are capable of such a run.”

Is it wise to rule out City so early in the season?

Hamann seems to be discounting Pep Guardiola’s side after they lost two of their first three matches. We have seen in the past that the Cityzens can start campaigns very slowly before going on to finish in top spot.

However, this team doesn’t appear to have the resiliency of past ones, and there are justifiable doubts over whether they are capable of maintaining a title challenge.

Liverpool are the favourites at the bookmakers

Despite some unconvincing performances in the opening weeks of the season, the Reds are currently sitting top of the table, with three wins from three.

Unsurprisingly, the bookies regard them as favourites for the title, with odds of between 6/5 and 13/10 to retain their crown.
