Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi has delivered an impassioned message to supporters following the club’s highly active summer transfer window.
The Black Cats enacted an ambitious recruitment drive in the build-up to their long-awaited return to the Premier League, bringing in 14 new players and spending in excess of £150 million in an attempt to assemble a squad capable of securing survival this season.
Ghisolfi, who joined the club in the wake of their promotion via the Championship play-offs, has played a key role in that process alongside sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, but has remained largely silent compared to his colleague, and has rarely spoken in a public sphere.

But in a new post to his personal Instagram account, the Frenchman expressed his gratitude for his early experiences on Wearside. He said: “Nice to discover you, Sunderland AFC. After two intense months, 1879 coffees, and 14 new signings… I just want to thank our staff and our fans for the warm welcome. This is the start of a new red and white chapter. Together, we keep building. Grit. Graft. Sunderland.”

Speaking shortly after he was appointed at the Stadium of Light back in early July, Ghisolfi said: “The club – players, staff, and supporters – achieved an amazing result last season. Together, these people brought Sunderland back to the Premier League, and I’m strongly determined to bring my experience and support this group to ensure the squad is ready to take the next step. This is an exciting challenge, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Kyril [Louis-Dreyfus], Kristjaan, and Régis [Le Bris], as we enjoy this exciting new chapter in Sunderland’s history, alongside our fans.”
