Man Utd star who‘covers the most distance’under Ruben Amorim argues one of his‘biggest strengths’is underrated

A key first-team Manchester United star under Ruben Amorim has said that he has one “attribute” that every player in his position needs to have in their arsenal.

Manchester United are currently ninth in the Premier League and the Red Devils picked up their first win of the 2025-26 season ahead of the September break.

The Red Devils collected all three Premier League points in late August after United’s win over Burnley at Old Trafford, with captain Bruno Fernandes netting the winner.

United received a penalty against Burnley deep into second-half stoppage time and Bruno Fernandes stepped up and the Portugal international successfully converted.

Following the 3-2 result at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim watched on as different United first-team players went off to represent their countries during the break.

United will return to action for the first time on the weekend since the start of the September international break, with the Red Devils travelling to the Etihad.

Bruno Fernandes thinks he has been rated ‘very low’ for a major quality in the Man Utd and Portugal midfielder’s playing style

Bruno Fernandes has been away from Old Trafford representing Portugal on the international stage for his country’s World Cup qualifying campaign this month.

The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has retained an important role under both Portugal manager Roberto Martinez and Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

Speaking to the Premier League’s official media, the Portugal ace sat down and was walked through some of his individual stats in the upcoming EA Sports FC 26.

Fernandes was told his defending in 2024’s EA Sports FC 25 was rated at a 65 overall and he was asked for his prediction over whether or not it had changed.

“That was very low, to be honest [a 65 rating on EA Sports FC 25],” he said.

“I defend a lot. I’m the one who covers the most distance, so…”

Man Utd and Portugal star Bruno Fernandes puts forward a powerful case for the important quality of defending as a midfielder

Fernandes learned that his defending rating had remained unchanged in EA Sports FC 26, which is slated for release on 27th September for both console and PC.

The ex-Sporting CP star insisted that the art of defending after losing the ball is an all-important feature that every midfielder must have if they want to play in that role.

“Yeah, probably, it’s because I think, for example, one of my biggest strengths is the reaction after losing the ball,” Fernandes continued.

“I’m very quick and switching on like, ‘Lost the ball, we have to defend.’ I think that’s an attribute that, as a midfielder, you need to have.

“I don’t know if it’s gone up or if it’s stayed like that, to be honest.”

United will face Manchester City in the first Manchester derby of the 2025-26 campaign on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 4:30pm UK time at the Etihad.
