AFCB Looking For Their Third Win

Following our really good performance with an away win against Spurs before the international break, this gave the Cherries 6 points after three games. This was the best start for the first three games since the 2018-19 season. AFCB will be looking to make it three league wins in a row and are back at Dean Court on Saturday at 3 pm.

Our visitors from 97 miles East of Dean Court are from another seaside town, Brighton. Brighton did the double over the Cherries last season. This season, the Brighton manager and his team have had their worst start for an opening three games in the Premier League since the 2020-21 season.

Their first game was at home, which they drew 1-1 with Fulham. The first away game was at Everton’s new stadium on the banks of the River Mersey. Everton won 2-0. The most recent game was at home against Manchester City, and Brighton won 2-1.

In our six games at home in the Premier League, our two sides have never drawn; the last draw between AFCB and Brighton at home was in November 2013. Twelve games against Brighton in this league there has been one draw, in the 2017-18 season at their ground. The first time we were together in the Premier League.

Our last meeting at Dean Court against Brighton was in November last season. Brighton took an early lead with Joao Pedro scoring in the 4th minute, the only goal in the first half. Kaoru Mitoma scored in the opening four minutes of the second half to give Brighton a 0-2 lead. Carlos Baleba was shown a second yellow card in the 59th minute, but even with a one-player advantage, AFCB didn’t find the net until three minutes into injury time, when David Brooks scored and it ended 1-2.

Our meetings in the league at home with Brighton, AFCB have W 27, D 17, L 12.

In all competitions, AFCB have W 45, D 29, L 43.

AFCB Team News

Adam Smith was injured and substituted away at Spurs. It seems he will be out for a while with a hamstring injury. Lewis Cook is hopefully available again after injury. Julian Araujo is available after serving a suspension.

AFCB Player To Watch

Antoine Semenyo has been in good form and Evanilson will be hoping to get on the score sheet again after scoring our only goal at Spurs. David Brooks has started the season well and we need Ryan Christie and Tyler Adams to dominate midfield.

Brighton Team News

Adam Webster and Solomon March have been out injured.

Brighton Player To Watch

Their main threat comes from the two ‘M’s’ out on the wings. Yankuba Minteh and Kaoru Mitoma. Also, Brajan Gruda looked good when he came on as a substitute against Manchester City and scored the winning goal.

The Referee

The man in charge is Peter Bankes, best remembered for that controversial red card decision in our game against Manchester United in April after VAR revue in which Evanilson was sent off. He was first shown a yellow card. But on appeal later, the red card was overturned. He also took charge of our away game at Wolves and the first game of last season away at the London Stadium against West Ham in the League Cup.

If we can basically dominate Spurs away from home, we can absolutely beat Brighton. They’re a decent side – yes, but they are very beatable and we are more than capable of getting 3 points at home.

If we’re as good as we are against Spurs, we’ll win.

A few interesting areas of the starting line up in whether we start Jimenez/Hill due to Smith’s hammy unless he has healed up. Also, Christie/Scott for the 8 role.

Good to have Lewis Cook back in the squad too if hes fit. – To join the conversation, please click here.
