“I imagine he’ll have good contract” – Transfer to Newcastle United doubted a little, youngster has long road ahead

Antoñito Cordero may struggle to make it at Newcastle United but will end up playing for good teams regardless.

That’s according to Malaga defender Eina Galilee, who has share his doubts [to Malaga Hoy](https://www.malagahoy.es/) about whether the 18-year-old will ever make his mark at Newcastle United.

Cordero joined the Magpies on a free transfer from Malaga early in the summer, much to the disappointment of the Spanish side.

He was one of their rising stars and had played a key role for them in the Spanish second division. There was much hope around him, but he elected to depart on a free to Newcastle after they convinced him with money and a long-term project.

The move was seen as something of a coup for Eddie Howe’s side, with reports stating that they had seen off competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona for the winger.

The expectation had been that Cordero would be loaned out to a team in a top five league this season, something Newcastle have done in the past with the likes of Yankuba Minteh.

Instead, he was sent to Westerlo in Belgium, a decision that led to plenty of raised eyebrows and some derision back in Malaga. Galilee wasn’t shocked to see that and has doubts about the move to Newcastle in general.

“I imagined Cordero was leaving, but I didn’t know. And it’s true,” he said.

“I understood that if the matter dragged on for so long, it would be because he had already made the decision. Then I read some things, that if there was a possibility… I have no idea, because I didn’t ask him. But I had a feeling. I don’t know if he was wrong. Time will tell.

“I think he was aware that he wasn’t going to Newcastle United, who are playing in the Champions League. I imagine he’ll have a good contract, for many years, where if they respect his timing, on loan in a European First Division, well, if all goes well, I don’t know if he’ll play at Newcastle at the top level, but he’ll be in very good teams.

“He already has that possibility of being there. There are people who have succeeded in Germany or in the Premier League. It’s true that things change.

“When I went to another country, I knew what it entailed. It’s a very big change, but the moment you sign, you know what you’re getting into. You can’t expect to sign what you have here, over there.”
