Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that Noni Madueke could be a serious contender to replace Bukayo Saka in the England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Madueke’s impressive performance during the recent international break, where he scored one of the goals in England’s 5-0 victory over Serbia, has raised questions about potential competition for places in the squad.
Saka’s absence from the September fixtures due to injury created an opportunity for Madueke to showcase his skills, and he seized it with both hands.
According to O’Hara, Madueke’s direct style of play could be an asset for England at the international level.
“Does Saka start? I know he’s a brilliant football player but Madueke, he’s very direct, and I like that at international level,” O’Hara said on Talk Sport

The differing attributes of the two wingers could present England coach Thomas Tuchel with a selection dilemma in the years to come.
Saka is known for his technical quality, control, and ability to dictate play with the ball at his feet, whereas Madueke thrives on direct runs and stretching defenses.
This contrast in styles could lead to an interesting battle for the right-wing role in the England squad.
Madueke’s progress ensures there will be increased competition for the right-wing role moving forward.
When Saka returns, he will relish the challenge of proving his place once again, both at club level and on the international stage.
The rivalry promises to be a healthy one, pushing both players to elevate their performances ahead of the World Cup.

Tuchel has shown an inclination to select Arsenal players for international duty, and with Saka and Madueke competing for the same position, interesting times are just ahead.
In the midst of this speculation, it’s worth noting that other pundits have also weighed in on the debate.
Former Chelsea defender Paul Parker believes that Madueke is actually better than Saka, citing his ability to go past defenders and strike fear into their hearts
Regardless of who ultimately secures the spot, it’s clear that England has a talented pool of players to choose from, and the competition for places in the squad is only going to get fiercer.
